Chetan Sharma, chairman of the national selection committee, called on BCCI president Sourav Ganguly at his Behala office on Wednesday afternoon.

Their meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of India’s loss in the WTC final and the forthcoming Test series in England. There’s already been a lot of talk about Shubman Gill’s shin injury, which has ruled him out of at least the first couple of Tests.

Sharma was supposed to join the squad in England but quarantine restrictions have ruled out the possibility.

Sources have termed Sharma’s visit as a “courtesy call” though discussions are believed to have taken place about the A tours and domestic tournaments. He also visited Eden Gardens and is expected to speak to a few of the Bengal players on Thursday before leaving in the evening.
