New Delhi: India defeated Pakistan 1-0 in their opening group C match in the second AFC under-14 ‘Festival of Football’ meet in Kathmandu on Saturday.
According to information received here, the all-important goal was scored by inside-right Sanjay Boro in the 41st minute following a free kick.
Matches in the group, which includes Bhutan, Nepal, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, will be played till April 15.
Amelia Island: Serena Williams’ comeback stalled when she suffered a surprise 2-6, 3-6 defeat by Russian Nadia Petrova in the quarter finals of the Amelia Island championships on Friday.
Serena, who returned to competition after an eight-month injury lay-off to win the Miami Masters last week, committed 42 unforced errors and failed to convert any of her ten break-point opportunities. Seventh seed Petrova will meet Lindsay Davenport in the semi-finals.
Fourth seed Davenport made light work of finishing off her delayed third-round match from Thursday night, taking two games to beat Australian Alicia Molik 6-4, 7-5. The American then returned to oust Argentine Paola Suarez 6-4, 6-1 in the quarters.

Chennai: The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) has announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh for the Indian men’s senior team, which bagged gold with a win over Pakistan in the recently-concluded SAF games.
VFI president Dr B. Sivanthi Adityan congratulated the team and attributed the success to grit, determination and teamwork, a VFI press release said on Saturday.
London: Toyota confirmed on Friday they were talking to Ralf Schumacher but denied they had already signed the German Formula One driver from Williams.
“We are talking to various drivers and one of them is Ralf, we don’t deny this,” said spokesman Andrea Ficarelli. “But reports that we have signed him are absolutely not true.”
The Munich daily TZ reported earlier that Ralf, younger brother of Ferrari’s six-time world champion Michael, had signed a three-year contract with the Cologne-based team with a salary of euros 15 million in his first season.
Ralf’s contract with Williams runs out at the end of the year but has said that his preferred choice would be to remain with the BMW-powered team. Williams are also losing Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya to McLaren at the end of the year.
Toyota, without a point this season, have Frenchman Olivier Panis, the oldest driver in Formula One at 37, and Brazil’s former CART champion Cristiano da Matta, as their line-up.
Paris: French cycling team Cofidis, rocked by a doping scandal for the last four months, decided on Friday to quit competition until further notice to give itself “the time and means to clarify the situation”.
Earlier this year, the team sacked Philippe Gaumont and suspended two other riders, Cedric Vasseur and Mederic Clain, charged on doping grounds following the arrest of a former team rider found with doping products in January.
“From today (Friday), and for the time that will be necessary, Cofidis will not enter teams at the start of races,” Cofidis said in a statement.
