Berlin: Germany's Angelique Kerber came from a set down to outmuscle Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 on Sunday and win the Stuttgart Grand Prix for her second title of the season.

"I am completely done here, empty. I gave everything I had and the crowd just carried me," she said in a courtside interview. "I had to fight until the very end and I could not have done it without this crowd."

Title for Kei

 Barcelona: Kei Nishikori won the Barcelona Open for the second consecutive year, after a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Spanish finalist Pablo Andujar on Sunday. It was the ninth career title for the top-seeded Japanese.

"I didn't think about winning the tournament at the start of the week because of the strength of the players here," Nishikori said.

Shiv tied 31st

Shanghai: Shiv Kapur ended with a modest one-under 71 to finish tied 31st at Volvo China Open on Sunday, even as Wu Ashun became the first Chinese to win a European Tour event on home soil, when he held off a spirited challenge from England's David Howell.

Kipchoge wins

 London: Kenya's Eliud Kipchoge got the better of compatriot and defending champion Wilson Kipsang in a fierce battle over the closing miles to win the London Marathon by five seconds on Sunday with world record holder Dennis Kimetto third.

Fans hurt

Rome: At least 10 people were injured when a paper bomb exploded during the Turin soccer derby between Torino and Juventus on Sunday, Italian media reported. The bomb went off during the first half of the Serie A match at Turin's Olympic Stadium.

Victory for Gowda

New Delhi: Ace Indian discus thrower Vikas Gowda came up with an effort of 65.75m to win his event in the Triton Invitational at La Jolla in San Diego, US, on Sunday. His performance was just 25cm short of Rio Olympics qualifying mark.

BHA League

Calcutta: Food Corporation of India (East Zone) defeated Punjab Sports Club 4-2 in a first division match of the BHA League, on Sunday. Akash Routh (2), Adesh Balmiki and Neeraj Kumar were the scorers for the winners.

Malinga fined

Calcutta: Lasith Malinga of the Mumbai Indians have been fined 5 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, at the Wankhede on Saturday.

Hockey meet

Saifai: Hockey Patiala thrashed Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) 5-1, while Manipur Hockey routed Hockey Jammu and Kashmir 7-0 in the fifth Senior National Hockey Championship for Women (B Division) on SundayCAB appeal
