“The loss to India wasn’t a wake-up call, for we aren’t a bad team at all. But, naturally, if you lose to India things will be said. It happens in our part of the world,” Waqar Younis, a former captain and head coach of Pakistan, told The Telegraph at Edgbaston.

After being beaten by India, Pakistan have, however, won all three matches.

Informally speaking briefly during the India vs England World Cup match, on Sunday, Waqar added: “Pakistan are in the hunt for a semi-final berth, but there would be complications if England defeat India... It will help Pakistan if India win.”

No wonder, even fans of Pakistan actually took to rooting for India — for a day, that is.

“We always support India, we do,” quipped Waqar, grinning.

Looking back on Saturday’s match against Afghanistan, which went to the last over, Waqar accepted that “Pakistan should have played better,” even though they got the two points.
