Women shine in varsity exams

Women have again outshone men in the Plus Three exams in North Odisha university (NOU), the results of which were published on Tuesday.

Baripada: Women have again outshone men in the Plus Three exams in North Odisha university (NOU), the results of which were published on Tuesday.

The overall pass percentage of 85 colleges in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts is 76.59. The pass percentage is nearly 79 arts, while it is about 72 and 73 in science and commerce streams respectively.

The university's controller of examinations Nirmal Chandra Panda said women have outnumbered the men in the overall toppers' list.

Women have topped in as many as 16 out of 22 subjects.

"Like previous years, women have once again proved that they are far ahead of men in studies," he said.

Among the three toppers, the ones in arts and science are from Betnati College in Mayurbhanj and the commerce topper is from Badabil College in Keonjhar.

The toppers in arts, science and commerce are Kasmira Khatun Manas (psychology honours from Betnati College with 682 marks), Ranjan Barik (zoology honours of Betnati College with 700 marks), and Rajkishor Badaik (accountancy honours from Badabil College securing 717 marks) respectively.

Varsity vice-chancellor Pradeep Kumar Chand declared the results on Tuesday. Varsity registrar Sadananda Nayak said that out of total 15,198 candidates, 11,228 have cleared the exam.

In arts 7,983 of 10,467 students have passed. In science, 2,593 students of 3,704 have passed. In commerce, 712 of 1,027 have become successful.
