Paradip, March 10: A 35-year-old married woman was paraded naked, molested and forced to drink urine in public.

The incident took place at a village in Jagatsinghpur district, police said.

The woman, who is a resident of Taladanda village in the Kujang police station limits of Jagatsinghpur district, filed the police complaint on Sunday, though the horrific incident took place last Thursday.

Hardly anyone at the village protested while she was being humiliated, apparently in retaliation against her husband, who had discredited some villagers last week. The victim's husband has a history of unlawful activities and is at present in police custody.

The police complaint alleged that around 20 persons had barged into her house on Sunday and ransacked it. The victim, who was forced to lock herself up in a room, was molested by the attackers, who later went to the extent of stripping her. She was paraded naked on the village roads.

Following her complaint, cases have been registered against the accused under the sections 354, 323, 147, 148, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

'The attackers warned me against lodging a police complaint. I was assaulted and paraded with my hands tied. Some villagers tried to save me, but they assaulted them as well,' said the victim.

'All the accused have fled from the village. We are conducting raids to find their hideouts,' said inspector in charge of Kujang police station Chinmaya Rout.

'We saw the woman being humiliated. Some of my friends and I protested and appealed to the molesters not to harm her. However, they suddenly retaliated and chased us,' said one of the eyewitnesses who was not willing to reveal his identity.
