Bhubaneswar, March 30: The alleged sex worker from Kyrgyzstan, who had been rescued from an apartment at Chandrasekharpur a week ago, tried to run away from Women Helpline, a short-stay home.

However, timely intervention of the home officials thwarted the escape bid.

Sources said the absence of an interpreter had left her anxious and frustrated. Last evening, she even tried to hurt herself by putting a blade in her mouth.

Sources in the short-stay home said the mobile phone of the woman was the only tool through which she had been communicating. "She types her message in Russian language and converts it into English with the help of Google translator to communicate. Whenever we need to talk to her, we also type the message in English and convert the text into Russian," said an employee of the short-stay home.

The employees said the woman was apprehending that the police would arrest her. "The day she was brought here, she refused to get into any of the rooms and slept on the balcony. Later, we somehow managed to convince her and bring her into the guest room," said the employee.

An official of the short-stay home said the woman was also not willing to take any food. "She is refusing food and surviving on aerated drinks. Since she arrived here on Wednesday, she has not talked much," said the official. On Sunday, she was admitted to Capital Hospital and administered with two bottles of saline.

The woman, who landed in India in February with a tourist visa, had reached Bhubaneswar two days before she was rescued from a posh apartment here. The police said her visa would expire on April 4.

Women Helpline programme manager Benudhar Senapati said: "Yesterday, we contacted the Kyrgyzstan embassy. The embassy officials have assured her that they would come to Bhubaneswar sometime this week and take her with them."
