Bhubaneswar, July 13: Crime branch officials started interrogating the wife of a murdered person on Tuesday.
Earlier, the police was handling the case of the murder of an area manager of a private courier company.
On January 24, the police recovered the bullet-riddled body of 40-year-old Debashis Mohanty from his car on the premises of Maa Bhuasuni Girls’ High School at Ogalapada, a little away from NH-5 in Janla.
Mohanty was a resident of Laxmi Sagar area.
Sources in the crime branch said as the city police had failed to solve the murder case even after many months of the incident, the probe was handed over to the crime branch. Mohanty’s widow Sonali Mohanty had met the director general of police and appealed him to transfer the case to the crime branch.
A senior crime branch officer said they had gathered necessary documents regarding the murder from the city police and were now questioning the widow. “We have got some important clues which will help us in solving the case,” he said.
The officer said they would interrogate even more people, including his colleagues, who had been close to Mohanty.
The city police were suspecting the role of some of his colleagues, who had allegedly been involved in the theft of a company consignment a few days before his death. Mohanty had named them in his complaint.
Mohanty was shot at from a close range. Though the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, the police suspect that the accused were known to the deceased.
