Bhubaneswar: A child was killed while his father suffered injuries after a wall of their house collapsed at Jhamunda village in Nisa police limits in Angul on Friday.
Five held
Bhubaneswar: Calcutta police traced five persons, accused in an attempt to murder case in Calcutta, to Puri and arrested them with the help of local police on Saturday. The accused had been absconding since August 22 after making an attempt on the life of Ahmed Pervez, a businessman in Calcutta. The arrested persons have been identified as Faizal Hak, Murak Hak, Mohammed Armaan, Azad Alam and Sheikh Shahenshah.
Swine flu toll at 26
Bhubaneswar: Two more persons succumbed to swine flu on Saturday to take the death toll to 26. The deceased, residents of Angul and Berhampur, died while undergoing treatment here. The health department has tested 839 swabs, 290 of which were found to be positive.
KISS varsity
Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) was on Saturday accorded university status to become the first exclusively tribal university in the world. KISS, which has already received deemed university status from the human resource development ministry, received varsity status for imparting holistic quality education to students from tribal communities in Odisha.
Temple security
Puri: A three-member National Security Guard team on Saturday conducted a security review of the Jagannath temple here. The team visited different locations in the shrine and held meetings with local police and state intelligence about how to strengthen security inside the temple.
