Vroom on jet ski in Hirakud

Jet ski will operate in the power channel of Hirakud dam on the other side of the river Mahanadi in Sambalpur district very soon.

Sambalpur: Jet ski will operate in the power channel of Hirakud dam on the other side of the river Mahanadi in Sambalpur district very soon.

The initiative to introduce jet ski was taken by the district administration to attract tourists and provide adventure sports facilities to the people .

The state tourism department will provide 5 jet ski which will reach here shortly, said Sambalpur collector Samarth Verma. An operator will be employed to run the jet ski in the power channel, he said. Jet ski is a watercraft manufactured by Kawasaki, a Japanese company for using mainly for recreation. Jet ski is known as such as a jet type of engine is fitted to it. In India, it is also known as water motor bike as it moves very fast in water. The speed limit as per calculation is 250-300km per hour. At a time, two to three people can enjoy the joy ride in water.

The same jet ski water amusement system has been provided in in Barkuk in Chilika lake and Ramchandi on Puri-Konark sea beach.

A team of experts led by Sabir Bux, the first jet ski rider of the ,state recently visited the power channel to study the ground situation.

The district administration has taken up various projects and allotted land for various educational institutes, such as the second campus of the Gangadhar Meher university, the Odisha State Open university and the Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur.

The second bridge on river Mahanadi is on the verge of completion to connect the other side of river. Land has also been allotted for the establishment of second battalion of Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) near power channel. A project like water park is also in the pipeline in the same area.

Bux during his tour here also visited Deojharan waterfall and its reservoir situated near Jujomura with divisional forest officer Sanjit Kumar. The state government has sanctioned Rs 94 lakh for the development of Deojharan as a eco-tourism spot. Bux has been requested to provide suggestion for proper utilisation of waterfall and reservoir for the entertainment of the tourists.
