The Union ministry of youth affairs and sports has shortlisted Berhampur resident Sangram Mishra for a 35-member youth delegation under the International Bilateral Youth Exchange Programme in Korea from May 10 to 19. The visit's aim is to promote mutual understanding of values and culture among the youth and develop better relations between India and Korea. Mishra had also attended the Republic Day parade in Delhi.
Admission
The Central University of Odisha has advertised for admission into its programmes. This year, the varsity will conduct the entrance test across 14 centres in the state and its vicinity.
It is offering postgraduate and undergraduate courses for BCA, BA and BEd, five-year integrated courses in mathematics, MA in economics, English, Hindi, journalism and mass communication, Odia, Sanskrit, sociology and MSc in anthropology, applied statistics and informatics, biodiversity and conservation of natural resources, along with PhD in a few subjects. The last date for submission of the online application form is June 9, while that for hard copies is June 16.
Blood donation
The GKCM Odissi Research Centre and the Youth for Seva jointly organised a blood donation camp in Bhubaneswar on May 7 to pay tribute to Pandit Bhubaneswar Mishra on his 24th death anniversary. The doctors present at the camp inspired the donors about how the activity can save lives and cater to the demand of blood. A commemorative meeting was also held prior to the camp. Around hundred units of blood were collected from the camp, co-ordinated by youth volunteers.
Annual day
The Namita Devi Junior College, Cuttack, recently observed its annual day. Panchayati raj minister Pradeep Maharathy, who attended the programme, announced that the government would provide 30 computers to the college.
First, visually-challenged Odisha Administrative Service officer Sanyas Behera, first visually-challenged Odisha Education Service officer Bijaylaxmi Pal, first visually-challenged international cricketer Jafar Iqbal and JEE (Main) qualifier Debashish Mallick were felicitated on the occasion. The college’s annual report was read out on the occasion.
Books donated
The NTPC Kaniha, as part of its CSR initiative, donated library books worth Rs 1.5 lakh to the Talcher Autonomous College. The group’s general manager Debasis Sarkar advised students to work hard to succeed. He asked them to focus on the targets of their respective careers that can only be possible through hard work and dedication.
Journalism course
The Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal, has started a special training programme for the diploma students in journalism of Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur. Vice-chancellor Srikant Mohapatra inaugurated the five-day programme from May 8 to 12. Around 34 students from various study centres have enrolled for the programme. Mohapatra emphasised on the idea of setting up open universities and the prospects of studying there. He said the department was planning to launch two new courses - a certificate course in emerging and new media and a postgraduate diploma in journalism and mass communication.
Final results
The Vyasa Nagar (Autonomous) College, Jajpur, published the Plus Three final results on May 6. Mathematics honours student Namita Kabi topped in the science stream with 1,484 marks and was declared as the best graduate. Rutuparna Rana secured 1,309 marks and topped in the arts stream. Similarly, Hema Gupta of commerce secured 1,431 and declared the topper in her stream.
