Bhubaneswar, July 21: Vistara Airlines, the joint venture of the Tata group and Singapore Airlines, would start service between Biju Patnaik International Airport and New Delhi.
The new air link would be introduced in the winter schedule.
Airport director Sharad Kumar said: "Airlines generally come out with two schedules in a year. While the winter schedule comes out in October, the summer schedule comes in April. The Vistara authorities have evinced interest in the Delhi-Bhubaneswar sector and approached the Airports Authority of India (AAI)."
Kumar hinted that Vistara was likely to use Airbus 320, which ideally accommodates around 180 passengers.
"We can be sure about the timing and other details once we receive the schedule," said the airport director.
Kumar also said Fly Easy, a subsidiary of the Bangalore-based ABC Aviation Training Services Private Limited, would start flights between the city airport and Bangalore in August.
"They are awaiting the final nod from the director-general of civil aviation, otherwise everything is ready," he said.
Fly Easy will fly 110-seater Embraer 190 (E190), and it has already received nod for the airline operator's permit. It has submitted its summer flight schedule to the city airport director on May 6.
According to the tentative schedule of the airlines, the first flight will take off at 6.45am from Bangalore and reach the city airport by 8.40am.
Again the flight will start at 9.10am from Bhubaneswar and reach Bangalore at 11.05am.
The flight will depart from Bangalore at 6.50pm and reach Bhubaneswar at 8.45pm. The return flight from Bhubaneswar will start at 9.10pm and reach the IT capital at 11.05pm.
The popular Bangalore flights of Jet Airways were stopped on October 27, 2013. Fly Easy officials had started discussions for operations on this route on October 26 last year.
While the city airport has 17 daily flights to various destinations, there are eight daily flights on the Delhi-Bhubaneswar route.
"Additional link to Delhi by Vistara Airlines will help travellers," said Jajnyabalkya Sarangi, a Delhi-based professional.
