Bhubaneswar: A family of three from Uttar Pradesh were detained on Saturday while clicking photographs with a mobile phone on the Jagannath temple premises.

U.K. Trivedy, his wife Indu and their 25-year-old son Himanshu were spotted by the servitors while taking photographs on the temple premises. Later, they were taken to the temple administration office and the mobile phone had been seized.

Officials said they would be left with a warning.

However, the devotee denied of being ignorant about the restriction. "We were ignorant about the ban on mobile phones inside the shrine. The police should have enquired about possession of mobile phone with us," said Himanshu.

The incident has raised question on the temple security as mobile phones and cameras are strictly banned inside the shrine. According to Section 30-A (4-C) of Jagannath Temple Act, 1953, devotees cannot take camera into the shrine.

The temple administration, too, has banned mobile phones into the shrine and officials said violation of the act was a punishable offence and attracts imprisonment up to two months and a penalty of Rs 1,000.
