Bhubaneswar, May 22: The general administration department has decided to integrate utility bill collection, including electricity and drinking water tariff, from the occupants of government quarters in the city with the e-quarters system.

The move aims to bring transparency and achieve 100 per cent tariff collection from the occupants of these quarters. "We have asked Tata Consultancy Services and National Informatics Centre to integrated the tariff collection in the e-quarters system," said an official of the general administration department.

"We have decided to make a database where the pending and current bills of the occupants would be updated on a monthly basis. This will help us in ensuring timely and cent per cent tariff collection from the occupants of the government quarters."

At present, the e-quarters system is in place to ensure smooth management of application for availing government quarters, their allotment, deposit of licence fee and issue of no objection certificates in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to minimise processing time and making the process transparent.

Officials said the water and sewerage tariff, along with electricity bills of the government quarters, would be integrated with the online system.

Occupants could also track their pending and current bills and make payments to the respective service providers. Eventually, people would also be able to make the payments online.

"This system will help occupants to make the payments and track their pending bills conveniently," said Jagannath Patra, a government quarter occupant at Unti-III.

At present, the general administration department has 1,582 government quarters in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. There are 233 Type-I quarters, 686 Type-II quarters, 364 Type-III quarters, 120 Type-IV quarters, 138 Type-V quarters and 41 Type-VI quarters in the two cities. The divisions of the quarters are made based on their size and comfort.

Sources said the 122 MLA quarters located near Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar would also be included in the system.

"The caretakers of the MLA quarters would be responsible for the utility bill payment and tracking in the e-quarters system," said another official of the general administration department.
