Cuttack: The pitch is ready to build two plants at Jagatpur and Pratapnagari for daily treating six and eight million litres of water, respectively.
The state government's public health engineering organisation has planned the treatment plants to extend the drinking water distribution network to the Cuttack Municipal Corporation's six wards, which are not covered by pipe water supply.
The organisation's executive engineer (Cuttack division) Sushant Ghadei said: "Two private parties - Gurumaharaj Constructions and Unicorn Constructions - have been assigned the job for the two wards (48 and 49) and four wards (56, 57, 58 and 59) to supply water from the treatment plants at Jagatpur and Pratapnagari, respectively."
"The projects in the six wards will add another 236km of pipeline to the existing 551km drinking water supply distribution network in the city," Ghadei said.
Water will be drawn from the Mahanadi and Kuakhai rivers and supplied through pipelines to the plants at Jagatpur and Pratapnagari, respectively. The new pipelines project has been planned for coming up with a distribution network to supply 14 million litres per day in the six wards, he said. At present, the organisation provides 102.9 million litres of water every day.
Pipe water is now being supplied in 44 of the 59 wards in the municipal corporation limits. While nine wards are partially covered, the rest six are uncovered.
Officials said the two adjoining wards (48 and 49) - to be supplied water through the Jagatpur plant with two overhead tanks - constitute Nimpur, Jagatpur, Najarpur, Sikaripur, Lakshmanpur, Fakirpur, Bhubanpur, N. Khaira, Immamnagar, Tarola, Jagatpur Industrial Estate, Podabara, Nuasahi, Station Bazar, Jagatpur Golei Chhak and Nankarimpur.
