Angul, July 26: Two persons were killed in separate road mishaps at the Talcher industrial belt, triggering roadblocks this morning.
As a result road communication on NH-20 towards Angul from Talcher was cut off.
In the first mishap at Kandal Chhack, Arta Nanda, a local BJP activist, died on the spot after a pick-up van rammed against his scooter.
Local residents blocked the NH-20, which connects Talcher to Pallahara, NTPC and Rourkela. The blockade was lifted in the afternoon after the company authorities, where Nanda was employed, paid Rs 1.5 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family. “The van’s driver and helper fled. We have seized the vehicle. A case has been registered at Talcher police station,” said inspector in-charge B.P. Patra.
The second incident took place near Tentulei village under Bikrampur police station. Nalco worker Ajit Gochhyat, 30, died on the spot after his motorcycle hit a tanker near the village.
According to sub-divsional police officer, Talcher, B.B. Sahu, today Gochhayat was on his way to his native village when the mishap occurred.
Irate residents put up a roadblock, blocking the Talcher-Angul road.
