Bhubaneswar, Nov. 6: Bodies of two women were found on the railway tracks at Lingaraj Passenger Halt today.

Though the exact cause of the deaths is yet to be ascertained, police suspect a train might have knocked them down.

The police said the incident came to light after a few local people spotted the bodies on the tracks.

"We rushed them to Capital Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival," said a police official.

The deceased have been identified as Namita Behera, 51, and Nayani Pradhan, 45, both natives of Polasara in Ganjam district. The police said the victims stayed at a nearby slum and worked as daily wage labourers in the city.

"We suspect that they were attending nature's call on the tracks when a train knocked them down. Both of them were thrown off the tracks and suffred multiple injuries. We spoke to the family members of the deceased and they did not suspect any foul play behind the deaths," said the police official.

"Such accidents have become frequent in the area. The railway officials should sensitise the slum dwellers on the issue," said a local resident.

Vigilance raid

Vigilance sleuths on Sunday raided five places, including the houses of Sayeed Sahiruddin Ahmed, the jailor of Sundargarh circle jail, on allegations of amassing disproportionate assets. Simultaneous raids were conducted at Ahmed's government quarters at Nabarangpur and two other houses in Bhubnaeswar.

The anti-corruption age-ncy, so far, has found moveable and immovable assets worth Rs 1.22 crore. The vigilance have also traced a triple-storey building in Bhubaneswar with a market value of Rs 32 lakh and another double-storied building in the city worth Rs 26 lakh.

"We are verifying his bank deposits and the value of assets may increase," said a vigilance official.
