Balasore, Feb. 27: Police arrested two persons, including a minor, in connection with a gang rape of a 37-year-old woman.
Two other accused, including a juvenile, are still at large. The accused arrested by Remuna police has been identified as Bhabanisankar Behera, 24. The other is a 14-year-old of Hatiaganda village.
The case was registered under several sections of IPC including rape. The victim had alleged that on Monday night four persons had raped her and they beat her up when she resisted. The police conducted medical examination of the accused persons as well as the victim last evening at the district headquarters hospital.
The victim, a divorcee and a resident of Chandipur under Mitrapur of Nilgiri, had been staying at a mutt in the village Hatiagand for more than 10 years. When the incident took place around 10.30pm on Monday, no other inmate was present at the mutt. In her compliant, she mentioned that the goons initially had come near the mutt in an inebriated state in the evening and started creating nuisance.
After she rebuked them, they fled from the place. Later, she had gone to a neighbour’s house to watch a TV serial. While she was returning, the same group followed her and barged into her room and raped her. She had mentioned name of four persons in her complaint that she lodged on Tuesday. Following the incident, the villagers mainly the women, had staged a demonstration yesterday, disrupting vehicular traffic in Remuna area demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Remuna inspector–in-charge Manoranjan Biswal said: “Two of the four accused, including a minor, have been apprehended. The other two are absconding and efforts are on to bring them to book soon.”
“There were visible external injuries on the body of the victim,” he said.
