Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, May 23: Students in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack came out with flying colours in the Senior School Certificate (Class XII) Examinations, the results of which were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for seven regions at 10am today.

“Most schools recorded cent per cent pass rate. Around 6,900 candidates had appeared for the Class XII exam from 56 centres in Orissa,” said J.P. Garg, deputy secretary at the CBSE regional office here. He said the compiled results for the state would be made available by Tuesday afternoon.

Since CBSE does not reveal the names of regional toppers, each school announced the names of the students who scored highest marks in science, commerce and humanities streams.

In Bhubaneswar, DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur’s Anshuman Kamila scored 96.4 per cent marks in science while Anuj Agrawal bagged 92.4 per cent in commerce.

“I gave up television, movies and computer games to prepare for my exams. My parents and schoolteachers have always motivated me to reach for the stars and I feel happy that I have lived up to their expectations,” said Anshuman, who wishes to pursue a degree in economics.

“I want to follow in my mother’s (Mitali Chinara, reader in economics and Odissi vocalist) footsteps,” he added. Sai International School’s Abhay Kumar Nayak scored 94.6 per cent in science and Mukund Agarwal scored 94.4 per cent in commerce. While Abhay’s target is to become a research scholar either in applied physics or mathematics, Mukund aspires to become a successful chartered accountant and set up an integrated fashion technology institute in the city.

Tejasa Mishra of DAV Public School, Unit 8, scored 95.8 per cent marks in science. Ishani Chakrabarty of the same school got 94.8 per cent marks in commerce. At DAV Pokhariput, Prajna Pallabee Ray scored 93.6 per cent marks in science.

Among the CBSE schools in Cuttack, DAV School (CDA)’s Arnav Behera scored 95.4 per cent marks in science while Arushi Agarwal bagged 92.47 per cent in commerce. Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 students Samapika Drajima recorded 94.2 per cent marks in science while Bara Banini Panda scored 95 per cent in commerce.

Arnav and Samapika are both aiming for the civil services. “I would like to study at IIM, Ahmedabad, and then appear for UPSC exams,” Samapika said.
