Tulasi Apa sweeps film awards

Tulasi Apa, narrating tales from the life and times of Tulasi Munda, swept the Odisha State Film Awards, the results of which were announced today.

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 26: Tulasi Apa, narrating tales from the life and times of Tulasi Munda, swept the Odisha State Film Awards, the results of which were announced today.

Barsha Nayak was named best actress for her work in the titular role in Tulasi Apa, while director Amiya Patnaik bagged the award in the best director category. Pankaj Jaal, who scored the music to the film, will be awarded the Balakrushna Samman for best music director. Arjana Jena has won the Pramod Pati Samman for best cinematographer for her work on Tulasi Apa. The film encapsulates the essence of Tulsi Munda's life, highlighting her struggle and achievements.

Cinematographer and producer Ashok Swain will receive the Jaydev Award - awarded to a film personality for his or her contribution to the growth and development of Odia cinema. Swain will be awarded Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

Swain has worked on several films in the past 40 years, including short films such as Phatakalpala, Salbeg, Ratri and Bana Phula, besides a short film on the Goti Pratha and Bonda tribals.

He has also shot documentaries on the state's handicraft, tourism, religion, health and tribal communities.

"This award is for people who have loved my work. I am indebted to the audience in Odisha who have appreciated my work," said Swain.

Sushant Mani's Kehi Nuhe Kahara, starring Elina Samantray and Avishek Rath, was named best film. In the best actor category, Soumya Ranjan was named winner.

Tapas Sargharia's work on Ishq Tu Hi Tu has earned him the award for best story. Samaresh Rautaray was named the best supporting actor and Priyanka the best supporting actress.
