Cuttack, Jan. 8: The state administrative tribunal today imposed restriction on selection for Odisha Civil Services with more than 50 per cent of the posts reserved for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and Socially & Educationally Backward Class (SEBCs).

The tribunal imposed the restriction in an interim order on a petition seeking quashing of the advertisement issued by Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) for OCS examination - 2011 for recruitment to posts coming under OCS category I and II.

The OPSC had notified that the preliminary examination of OCS examination – 2011 would be conducted on January 19, 2014. Around 76,000 candidates are expected to take the examination.

The commission had issued an advertisement on November 17, 2011, inviting applications for recruitment to 364 posts. Later, on December 16, 2011, the commission had issued a corrigendum to the advertisement increasing the number of posts to 494.

As part of implementation of Orissa Reservation of Posts and Vacancies (For SEBCs) Act which fixed the quota for SEBC in government jobs at 27 per cent the advertisement had kept 62 per cent of the posts in the reserved category.
