Training begins for servitors

The two-day training session of young daitapatis (servitors) of the Shree Jagannath temple for the upcoming Nabakalebar event began in Puri today.

Bhubaneswar, March 14: The two-day training session of young daitapatis (servitors) of the Shree Jagannath temple for the upcoming Nabakalebar event began in Puri today.

Law minister Arun Sahu and chief administrator of the Jagananth temple Suresh Mohapatra inaugurated the training programme.

The young daitapatis were given training about performing various rituals connected with Nabakalebar when the old idols of Lord Jagannath and His siblings are replaced with the new ones.

"I am honoured to a be a part of the contingent of 100 servitors, who would travel from Puri to Kakatpur, about 70km, in search of the scared wood that would be used for the making the idol of Lord Jagannath," said Amit Das Mohapatra, one of the trainees.

The trainees would begin their journey in search of the sacred wood on March 29.
