Sambalpur, Aug. 12: The railway authorities have ordered a probe into the incident in which a 17-year old girl was pushed out of a running train, allegedly by a woman TTE.
The disturbing incident took place on August 10 at Sambalpur Road railway station.
A railway official said: "The senior commercial manager of the Sambalpur railway division is inquiring into the matter."
The statements of the TTE, Railway Police Force personnel, guards and some passengers, who were present on the train, had already been recorded.
Rekha Naik, 17, of Gaurpara in Rengali had boarded the Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express with her sister-in-law and two other relatives. They were on their way to Sambalpur when five ticket collectors, including a woman, had asked them to display their tickets.
Rekha said they lost the tickets, which led to a heated argument. Then the woman TTE allegedly pushed Rekha from the running train.
Rekha sustained grievous injuries on her face as well as on her left leg. She was rushed to the district headquarters hospital in Sambalpur and later shifted to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Burla. Since her condition did not improve, she was again shifted to the SCB Medical College in Cuttack for specialised treatment.
A case has been registered at the Kherajpur GRP station.
"We had gone to the hospital and received the complaint from the victim. A case had been registered against an unknown person under Sections 341, 323 and 325 of the IPC. We are investigating the incident," said Chintamani Pradhan, the GRP inspector of Khetrajpur police station.
The incident invited sharp criticism from many citizens. A delegation titled 'Progressive Sambalpur' is scheduled to meet divisional railway manager D.K. Singh seeking compensation.
"The railways should bear the treatment expenses of the girl," said Sanjit Mohanty, a member of the delegation.
