Rourkela. Sept. 8: Police here have intensified the drive against motorists violating traffic rules.
Motorists here often violate the rules such as three persons riding on a two-wheeler, not wearing helmets, driving on the wrong side of the road and rash driving. It has also organised awareness drives in association with a corporate house last week.
Police officials said though they had conducted such drives in the past, some motorists continued to ignore rules. “We have started continuous drives over the past few days at various places in the city and are imposing fines on violators. We hope they will understand the need to follow rules. We will intensify the drive in the coming days,” said Ramesh Chandra Singh, traffic in charge, traffic police wing, Rourkela.
Even residents admit that most of the accidents in the city are caused because motorists do not follow traffic norms. “I see youngsters driving rashly on the road without helmets. Police must continue their drive against such traffic violators,” said S.K. Rana, a resident of Koel Nagar.
