Sambalpur, June 18: Vimsar authorities today transferred two nurses and an attendant from its special newborn care unit (SNCU) following the recent baby swap.
The baby girl of Reena and Gagan Patra of Podakhol was swapped with the dead baby of Sudam and Sanjukta Bhoi of Boudh on May 22.
Both the babies were undergoing treatment at the SNCU.
The hospital authorities had initially denied the baby swap incident when Gagan alleged it.
The staff of Vimsar SNCU had told Gagan that his daughter had died on May 21.
A probe began when Gagan lodged a complaint at Burla police station demanding a DNA test of the baby. The DNA test that was conducted in Bhubaneswar recently confirmed the baby swap.
Vimsar has formed a three-member team of doctors to inquire into the matter.
"The team is yet to submit its report. We will take stricter action against those found guilty in the report. However, we have transferred three staff members from SNCU on the basis of available information as the case has already been proved," said Vimsar director Sonamali Bag.
He also said the authorities were doing everything possible to ensure that such incidents did not recur.
"We have started collecting footprints and fingerprints of babies and their mothers while admitting them in the newborn care unit to avoid recurrence of this kind of incident in the future," he added.
