Bhubnaeswar, April 3: Police today arrested three juveniles on charges of raping a Class X girl and recording the crime on a mobile phone at Pancharida village in Nayagarh district, 100km from here.

The police said the girl could not recollect the exact date when the crime took place and the matter came to light three days ago when the video, which had been shared by the accused on a social networking site, became viral.

The police said one of the accused was the girl's classmate.

"The girl told us that on the day when the incident took place she had gone to the bank to update her cousin's passbook. The youths met her after she finished the work at the bank and accompanied her back to the village. Later, they forcefully took her to a secluded place. One of the youths held the victim and another raped her. The third youth filmed the incident on a mobile phone. They threatened the girl of sharing the video if she disclosed the matter," said a police official.

The police suspect that the incident took place in the last week of February. The police said the matter came to light on Friday after the villagers came to know about the video.

Police sources said the matter finally landed in the village court where it was decided to marry off the girl with the accused boy, but the girl would stay with her own parents till she become a adult. The court also directed the family of the prime accused to pay compensation to the girl, which was not accepted by his family members.

The discontent over the compensation forced the girl's family members to lodge a formal complaint at Sarankula police station on Sunday.

"As soon as the complaint was filed, we registered a case and immediately nabbed the prime accused. Subsequently, the two other accused were also nabbed.

The case was registered under the IT Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. We are further investigating the matter," said Nayagarh superintendent of police Kanwar Vishal Singh.

The cops later took the victim for a medical test and she was also taken to the spot where she narrated the entire event before the authorities. The police also seized three mobile phones containing the video clip from the accused.

On March 23, two minor boys were arrested for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl at Kuliana in Mayurbhanj district.
