TCS IT Wiz-2016

Tata Consultancy Services has officially announced Bhubaneswar as one of the venues of TCS IT Wiz 2016 - India's largest technology quiz for schools. The event will be held on August 26. The quiz will be open to students of classes VIII to XII. Institutes will be allowed to send multiple teams, each consisting of two members. TCS IT Wiz 2016 will be held across 15 locations in India - Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Calcutta, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Visakhapatnam. Interested students will have to send their entries through their respective institutions on or before August 23.

Teachers' workshop

A state-level workshop for science teachers was organised ahead of the 24th National Children's Science Congress 2016. The science congress is hosted by the department of science and technology. Arun Kumar Pati, the director of the math clinic where the event was held, said that the teachers were given an introduction on the modules of the science congress. He added that they were motivated to make the event a success by making it a forum where children could exhibit their creativity and innovativeness. They would get an opportunity to display their ability by helping the children solve societal problems using science and technology. The theme for this year is science and technology and innovation for sustainable development. Retired professor of the Regional Institute of Education H.H. Sathapathy was the chief guest at the workshop.

Heritage quiz

Susan Das, Atish Padhy and Piyush Mishra of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, weaved a grand success story as they bagged the DAV Heritage Quiz Contest. The three Class-XII students were guided by their teachers Durga Madhav Behera and Girija Shankar Bal during the course of the competition in which participants from 42 schools across the state took part. The contest was held at DAV Public School, Chandrashekharpur. Regional director of DAV institutions, Odisha Zone-1 K.C. Satapathy, chairman of school management committee Madan Mohan Panda and school principal Sujata congratulated the students on this success.

Support for Olympians

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority and the municipal corporation organised Road to Olympics, a unique event to support the sportspersons representing India at the Olympic Games in Rio and inspire and encourage the youth to play more sports. A women's cyclothon was held at Master Canteen Square and a sports quiz was held at a city hotel where 100 students from 15 schools from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack took part. Nisith Kumar Pati and Shrutashraba Mishra (DAV School, Chandrasekharpur) won the gold medal in their individual events, while the silver medals went to Prajnakalpa Mishra and Pratyadishta Parida (DAV School, Chandrasekharpur). Sandeep Sahoo and Shubham Parida (Loyola School, Bhubaneswar) won the bronze medals.

Investiture ceremony

The senior and junior leaders of DPS Kalinga were inducted into the prefectorial board in the investiture ceremony 2016-17. The chief guests for the days were Sainik School principal Capt. Kanchan Mukherjee, Apollo Hospitals head Brig. Dr Biraj Mohan Mishra and AMRI Hospital's consultant ophthalmologist Dr Rita Dash. Their speeches instilled a spark of leadership among the members of the students' council. The students also presented a cultural programme where they presented choirs, dance and a skits based on the theme of educating the girl child.
