Bhubaneswar: The process to construct a new building for the municipal corporation was set rolling on Friday with the floating of a tender.

The new building of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be set up at Unit IX. The building will also house the Intelligent City Operations and Management Centre (ICOMC). It will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 67 crore.

The 2.31 lakh sqft structure of the BMC and the ICOMC offices will be developed on an area of 4.04 acre. The complex will have basement parking facility, and the BMC office will occupy the lower and upper ground floors. The first and second floors will house the ICOMC. There will be a cafeteria on the third floor and landscaped area on the terrace.

According to the proposal, the project will be completed within 24 months after the tender is awarded to the bidder. While the tender documents will be available from Saturday, the pre-bid meeting will be held on September 17 and the last date of receipt of the bid through the web portal is October 4. The last date to submit original documents and earnest money is October 5. The technical bids will be opened on October 9. Details regarding the proposal would be available on tendersodisha.gov.in.

The BMC had applied for land on January 25 last year and the GA department gave its nod on May 30 this year. To facilitate the construction of the building, demolition of two government quarters of the general administration department has started on August 8.

A firewood godown of Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) will also be relocated to facilitate construction of the building. The godown supplies firewood for cremating bodies at the Satya Nagar crematorium.
