Bhubaneswar, Feb. 15: Residents of Sundarpada today staged a demonstration in front of the Airfield police station demanding arrest of two youths, who had allegedly kidnapped a minor girl from the area in the first week of January.
Around 100 residents gathered in front of the police station and raised slogans against the cops. They even barged into the police station demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
The residents also criticised the police after one of the accused, who was handed over to the cops by them, managed to escape from a running train.
'My daughter has been kidnapped by two youths from our neighbour's house. Though we reported the matter to the police, they showed little interest in lodging the complaint,' said the mother of the 15-year-old girl.
The matter took an ugly turn when one of the accused, Nur Alam, reached Bhubaneswar this month and pleaded ignorance about the incident.
Later, the residents handed him over to the police. Alam told the cops that the girl was in Delhi and the police decided to take him there to rescue the girl.
However, Alam who was accompanied by an assistant sub-inspector and a constable managed to escape from the running train on his way to New Delhi on February 9.
'We suspect that they have sold our daughter. Though we handed over one of the accused to the police, they are yet to trace our girl. If the police do not rescue the girl at the earliest, we will intensify out agitation,' said the victim's brother.
'The youth managed to flee from the running train while being taken to rescue the girl. Our efforts is on to trace the girl and to nab the youth at the earliest possible,' said police commissioner R.P Sharma.
In October last year, a criminal, P. Rama Rao, 22, also managed toescapeafter being produced in a local court by two constables of Kharvela Nagar police station.
