Bhubaneswar, Oct. 4: Police today arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly murdering a 19-year-old working woman at her rented house at Kanan Vihar on September 25.
The police said the accused, Pradyumna Parida, killed her after the victim, Haseena Das, had snapped relationship with him.
The police said Parida came in contact with the teen, working in a diagnostic centre at Patia, while both used to work in a private hospital in the city two years ago. 'Parida was working as a team manager of laboratory technicians in the hospital when both of them developed a relationship,' said a police official.
On September 25, Parida called the girl 25 times on her mobile phone, but she did not respond. After that, the accused reached her house, and both had a heated argument. Parida later cut her neck with a kitchen knife and smothered her with a pillow. Parida then escaped from the house,' said commissioner Y.B. Khurania.
Das was staying at the rented accommodation with one of her friends, who had been to her native place on the day of crime on account of Puja vacation. Her body was found lying on the ground in the house. The cops had found cut marks in her neck. During her post-mortem at Capital Hospital, Parida was also spotted mourning Das's death. He had claimed the girl of committing suicide.
Khurania said Das had snapped relationship with Parida after she got to know that he was a married man. But, Parida kept on insisting her to maintain it. 'Parida, a native of Udala in Mayurbhanj district, was married in 2012 and has a 10-month-old daughter. He is employed in a diagnostic centre in Cuttack,' said a police officer.
The police arrested Parida from his house at Kalathai in Khandagiri police limits and seized the knife and the pillow used to murder Das.
