Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, is conducting a five-day course for persons working in industries, such as steel, cement and electronics.
The topic of the course is "Application of Artificial Intelligence Techniques and Robotics and Mechatronics in Various Systems of Industrial Environment". The course will end on November 24. The mechanical engineering and industrial design departments of the NIT is conducting the course. Information technology faculty is also involved in the training.
"We have 41 participants from across the industries, such as steel, cement and electronics," said R.K. Parhi of the department of mechanical engineering. The participants are in the middle-level of their respective organisations. They hold crucial positions in their respective units and the course will help them execute their jobs better," said Parhi.
Explaining about the course, Parhi said: "The time has already arrived when artificial intelligence plays a vital role in all the industries. So, it is important to get trained. Artificial intelligence can be used to take decisions just like normal a human being and it is an evolving field."
Artificial intelligence is used extensively in the production process of industries. It is used to drive the machine and in decision-making and data-analytics. Robotics and mechatronics are two most specialised studies and integral parts of the course. "These subjects are being taught in the mechanical engineering department here for which it is easier for us to conduct the course," Parhi said. The Vizag Steel Plant is sponsoring the course. "The classes will start at 8am and will continue till 5pm," Parhi said.
