Bhubaneswar, Feb.28: Bangalore police today arrested a 25-year-old techie from Old Town here for allegedly cheating more than 500 students of nearly Rs 1 crore by promising them jobs in the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro).

The woman, identified as Swati Mohanty, who had been posing as a junior scientist of Isro, provided fake appointment letters to students of around 20 Plus Two schools and technical and diploma institutes in the state.

Mohanty did her BTech from a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar in 2010. Sanjay Nagar police held the girl from her Sriram Nagar residence at Old Town this afternoon with the help of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar police.

However, the sub-divisional judicial magistrate asked the police to medically examine the girl before producing her in court in the evening. The woman fainted on the court premises creating panic for the policemen.

A police control room van was brought later and Mohanty was rushed to hospital.

“Mohanty was posing as an Isro employee. After the Bangalore police approached us, we provided them with all necessary help,” said deputy commissioner of police, Bhubaneswar, Nitinjeet Singh.
