Bhubaneswar, April 1: The technical education department has instructed all colleges affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) to install video-conferencing facility to allow online interaction between headhunters and students.
Vice-chancellor J.K. Satpathy has been asked to float tenders for the requisite equipment. According to the department’s direction, colleges have been asked to take “proactive action” with “immediate effect” to increase the prospects of students during campus placement drives.
“Principals of colleges have been advised to create better ambience at their institutes and make them eco-friendly to attract meritorious students and industrial houses,” a senior official of the department said.
The digitalisation of library books of all colleges has to be completed within a month.
The department has asked to prepare a separate academic calendar for MCA, BTech, BPharma and MBA courses. According to the schedule, government as well as self-financing colleges must hold entrance exams including AIEEE, state common entrance test and other management quota tests in May, while the results of that as well as of qualifying exams should be declared by June 5.
The first round of counselling and admission process has to be conducted latest by June 30. The department has not put any restriction on the number of counselling sessions and stated that it could be done in view of local requirements, but by July 30.
Classes must begin from August 1 and excess candidates can be admitted against vacancies only in special cases within 15 days.
The authorities have been asked to publish the details of exam, including those for back papers in various newspapers in advance, so that students are intimated. The number of terminals in each semester has also been reduced from three to two.
The varsity is expected to expedite work on grievance cells. The department had earlier asked the BPUT officials to install two such cells in Rourkela and Bhubaneswar and provide toll-free numbers for registering grievances.
