Bhubaneswar, Feb. 27: Teachers and non-teaching staff members of 488-category block grant colleges today threatened to boycott the Plus Two examinations starting from March 2 and evaluation of answer sheets for not getting an invitation to attend a ministerial committee meeting held last evening.
The 488-category and the 662-category colleges have been on a strike for the past two weeks demanding the abolition of block grant and implementation of grant-in-aid for them irrespective of their categories. However, the state government invited only the representatives of the 662-category colleges for talks. This has left the other group fuming.
Following the discussions, the 662-category colleges today announced to call off the strike and co-operate in the exam process with the condition that they would re-launch it if the state government did not accept their demand by March 10.
President of the 488-category colleges Pabitra Mahala accused the state government of applying the "divide and rule " policy.
"We were protesting together for the same cause. But, they played their politics by inviting only the 662-category teachers for discussion and making promises to them reconfirming the fact that they wish to continue dividing the teachers on various grounds. They are scared to see the teachers united for a cause," said Mahala.
