Teachers check Plus Two papers

Bhubaneswar: The process of Plus Two examination paper evaluation began on Wednesday amid protests from block grant teachers.

The teachers have announced that they will continue with their protest and boycott of the evaluation process. They also picketed before the evaluation centres on Wednesday.

The teachers, under the banner of All-Odisha School and College Teachers' and Employees' United Forum, staged demonstrations here shouting slogans and showing placards to air their grievances.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education has roped in around 7,000 teachers for the evaluation of the answer sheets of the Plus Two students. The evaluation will be done in two phases. The first phase will continue till April 14. The second phase will commence from April 16 and go on till 26.

The evaluation is being conducted at 56 centres across the state, of which 29 are e-evaluation centres.

"We have put in place an alternative and are ready to face any kind of disruption," said higher education minister Anant Das.

Chancellor meet

New governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday interacted with university vice-chancellors at Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. This was the first meeting of governor, who is also the ex-officio chancellor of the state universities, with vice-chancellors.

Malllik reportedly told the vice-chancellors to be focused on quality education and research and to ensure that students develop a spirit of innovation and acquire employable skills.

Fraud arrest

Police arrested an automobile stockist from Kendrapara town in a cheque bounce offence. Bilash Ranjan Sahu was taken into custody on fraud charge.
