Swachh tasks for good rank

The housing and urban development department has prepared a list of activities for the municipal corporation and asked it to pull up its socks to achieve a good rank in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme this year.

Bhubaneswar: The housing and urban development department has prepared a list of activities for the municipal corporation and asked it to pull up its socks to achieve a good rank in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme this year.

The department has assessed the performance of the city Keeping in mind the importance of citizen participation in cleanliness activities, the state government has directed the civic body to encourage people to use the Centre's Swachhata App.

"A mobile van is already on the job to sensitise citizens on the use of the App. Recently, we are registering a surge in the number of users," said the official.

To achieve the open defecation free status by April 1, the civic body will conduct door-to-door survey and issue work order for construction of individual household latrines.

The municipal corporation will conduct ward-wise survey and complete the task before April 1. It will look into requirement of community and public toilet facilities.

"We have improved a lot when it comes to maintaining cleanliness and providing quality civic services to the people in the recent years. Now we need to intensify our activities to accomplish the task on time. We have already started complying with the activities assigned to us and are optimistic about improving our rank," said Bhubaneswar mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
