Bhubaneswar, Aug. 2: Film enthusiasts enjoyed a treat of creative brilliance at a recent screening of the short film Boba Mukhosh.

The film by a group of young techies from the city was appreciated for its inventiveness and fine presentation of an intense theme in a captivating way.

Based on an abstract poem, the film — Boba Mukhosh — gives an insight into a surreal world that exists within the protagonist played by Amartya Bhattacharya.

The erratic flow of thoughts of this schizophrenic individual has been illustrated in a broken flow of scenes to depict the psychic pattern of the individual. The character’s alter ego is a woman, (played by Payal Agarwal) who he has constructed in his mind.

“The randomness of discrete thoughts and their non-realistic cohesion makes the film largely surreal which follows the mantra of ‘Psychic Automatism’. The male tries to extract his expectations or consolations out of the personified female. But at the same time, his guilty conscience thrusts a blow on him through the words of his imaginary woman,” said Amartya, who is also one of the directors of the film, the other being Mainak Ghosh.

“There is a battle of ego — the male ego verses the female ego — and the driver ego verses the driven ego. Like all hallucinations, the woman vanishes into thin air, only with a hope to return again in a new manifestation, on a new day,” said the engineer, author and passionate actor and film-maker.

Recently, the 26-minute film was screened at the KIIT School of Film and Media Sciences and a number of young film enthusiasts were impressed by the team’s work.

“Be it acting or direction or even the cinematography, the team deserves a pat on the back for their amazing production skills. The film was abstract and random, but at the same time quite gripping,” said Chandan Patnaik, a film enthusiast at the event.

Another film enthusiast, Rajiv, said: “The actors were really impressive, so was the plot which was like a jigsaw puzzle, but when put together made a wonderful film.”

Written by Amartya, Boba Mukhosh was produced by Sanchari Roy and Kevin MacLeod composed the music.

Other members of the crew included Swastik Choudhury, Amrita Bharadwaj, Lalatendu Barik, Moumita Acharya, Pritamangshu Nag, Bikramjit Roy, Sayan Ghosh and Tanumoy Talukder, most of them young engineers in their 20s.
