Bhubaneswar: Police suspect that Gopinath Moharana, whose body was found with his throat slit from his rented accommodation at Unit-IV on Saturday, had committed suicide due to loan burden.
Though police have filed a case under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal Code, their suspicion of suicide is "based on circumstantial evidence". The police said that the injury caused in the neck of the deceased appeared to be self-inflicted as the cut mark was not very deep.
"Doctors conducting post-mortem said that the trachea of the deceased was found intact and the death was primarily caused due to loss of blood. We are waiting for the final post-mortem report in a day or two after which the exact cause of death can be ascertained," said an officer.
The police further said that the footage obtained from a CCTV installed at a nearby shop showed none entering the room after the deceased entered the rented house.
"The footage showed the cousin of the deceased entering the house and subsequently running out of the room hurriedly. We thoroughly interrogated his cousin. We also did not found any blood stains on the walls and floor which suggested that the deceased did not resist to attempt to cause the the injury," said the officer.
However, they were still probing the possible entry of outsiders into the crime spot.
