Sambalpur: Experts are conducting a research on the water quality of Mahanadi river, the level of pollution in it and various issues pertaining to the use of the river water.
The Sambalpur University has undertaken the high-level research on Mahanadi river basin.
The research will be done on nine vital issues. Syndicate of the university finalized the subjects after a series of discussions on Thursday.
Vice-chancellor Deepak Behera said the research work would be conducted under his direct supervision.
"The research will be conducted on the subjects like the quality of water flowing in the river, the extend of pollution, use of Mahanadi water by the industries and farmers in agriculture, quality of water supplied for the drinking, fish and other aquatic animals and diseases caused due to water pollution, Behera said.
The research will emphasise on resources mapping involving communities living in the basin to ensure their stake on the river.
