Balangir, July 4: Rashmita Tripathy, a homemaker at Titilagarh, had to be content with liquor tea today.

Rashmita said she did not get milk at the Omfed parlour in the town this morning.

“When I went to the nearest Omfed parlour, the salesman said the vehicle that carried the milk had not come due to shutdown,” she said.

The dawn-to-dusk strike called by the Titilagarh Bar Association protesting against shifting of the family court to Balangir paralysed life here today.

All government and private offices, banks, schools and colleges remained closed in the city. Besides, vehicular traffic was also paralysed.

The strike’s impact was felt at Titilagarh, Kantabanjhi, Bangomunda, Sindhekela and Saintala of Titilagarh sub-division.

Police said the shutdown was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported. President of the association Kishore Chandra Panda said they were not opposing the establishment of family court in Balangir.

“But, we are fighting for judgments at door steps. If the courts of junior magistrate first class of Kantabanji and Saintala were empowered and delivered justice to those types of cases, why the people will go to the district headquarters. We are advocating for exclusion of Titilagarh from the proposed family court to be established in Balangir and to continue with the provisions as it used to be,” Panda said. He thanked people of the area who supported the strike.
