Puri, June 29: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today presided over the co-ordination committee meeting for giving final touches to the preparations for rath yatra starting July 10.

Naveen said: “I issued direction that all steps should be taken to ensure that the rath yatra is held smoothly.”

Stress was laid on cleaning Grand Road before the festival. Housing and urban development minister Debi Prasad Mishra said: “The drain slabs will be laid before the fest and sanitation will be over.”

Five ministers, development commissioner Jugal Mohapatra, director-general of police Prakash Mishra, chief administration of the temple Arabinda Padhi and other senior officials today accompanied Naveen. Servitors were invited to the review meeting.

Puri superintendent of police Anup Sahu said: “A total of 110 platoons of armed police, besides rapid action force (RAF) of various ranks, will be deployed in the town during the festival. We will also deploy the special bomb detection squad and bomb disposal units.”

To monitor the movement of people and vehicles, CCTVs will be installed at strategic places along Grand Road.

The chief minister assured the servitors that all their problems would be looked into. On the occasion, Naveen also unveiled a book on rath yatra titled Rooparekha.
