Bhubaneswar, May 26: The department of technical education is taking precautions to prevent misuse of students’ details on its website.
The department officials said the data would be removed from the website and sealed. This decision was taken at a recent meeting in the wake of allegations of data being leaked from the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) cell.
Last month, a group of students under the aegis of Biju Patnaik Students’ Organisation (BSO), had brought forth allegations that vital information regarding students who had appeared for the OJEE was being leaked to private colleges.
“These colleges have engaged middlemen to misguide students and force them to take admission into their institutions,” alleged Samapta, a student-member of BSO.
Further, mischief-makers can also misuse students’ details such as address and educational qualifications to impersonate a candidate. Fake identity cards can also be easily generated.
The authorities have also decided to secure the data by making it password and print protected. Whatever correction is required to be made would be done only in the presence of OJEE chairman.
“Closed-circuit television cameras would be installed in the confidential room of the OJEE cell and biometrics attendance would be introduced to restrict and scan entry,” said a senior official of the technical education department.
