Steps to promote tribal products

Craft products from across the country will now be available at Ekamra Haat in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela as two new showrooms of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (Trifed) have opened recently.

Bhubaneswar: Craft products from across the country will now be available at Ekamra Haat in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela as two new showrooms of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (Trifed) have opened recently.

Eight categories of products would be available, including tribal textiles, tribal jewellery, gifts and novelties, tribal paintings, metal crafts, cane and bamboo products, stone pottery, organic and natural products at these outlets.

Customers will get to choose from a wide range of tribal handicraft products, Sambalpuri saris, Ikkat saris, Kanta work saris, Tassar saris, Bagh print saris, traditional dress materials, shirts, kurtas, kurtis, yoga mat, curtains and many other products.

The federation has established a chain of showrooms in the name of "Tribes India" for marketing indigenous handicrafts all over India.

These showrooms will house authentic and unique collection of products from all over India especially from Odisha and Bengal.

The products have the authorised quality assurance.

The federation also organised a 14-day exhibition at Bocca Cafe here to promote tribal craft. The exhibition started from Friday (24 February). "We are committed to the cause of promotion and marketing tribal handicraft products especially of Odisha and Bengal at the same time marching ahead towards empowerment of about 5crore of MFP (Minor Forest Products) gatherers in association with all the state governments with a noble cause," said M. Bhav Singh, regional manager of the federation in Bhubaneswar.

"We have been imparting training in scientific collection and sustainable harvesting of MFP for ensuring quality collection, protection and preservation of the MFP trees as well as value addition of these products for earning higher income generation," Singh said.
