Bhubaneswar. May 28: A 52-year-old man was injured after being shot at by a married person, who had been stalking the victim's daughter.
The victim has been identified as Pravakar Mishra, who works as a driver in a taxi agency.
The incident took place in front of Lakshmisagar police station late this evening. The accused has been identified as Snehasis Mishra, a garage owner. Both hail from Satsankha area of Puri district.
The incident took place when Pravakar, with his family, came out from the police station after lodging a complaint against the accused. Snehasis was sitting inside an auto when Pravakar's family was coming out of the police station.
Spotting Snehasis, Pravakar and his family members tried to overpower him. Even two constables rushed to help them. Suddenly Snehasis whipped out a pistol and opened fire with the bullet hitting Pravakar's right chest. Pravakar immediately fell on the ground.
Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania said: "We have arrested the accused and seized the weapon. Investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind the crime."
Sources said the accused had been trying to win over the favour of Pravakar's 17-year-old daughter, who has appeared for the Plus Two examination recently, for the past six months.
"He had made our life miserable at Satsankha. Later, we shifted to Bhubaneswar and have been residing in a house at Lakshmisagar for the past six months. However, Snehasis got to know about our address and started coming here and also creating trouble for us," said Pravakar's wife, Rina.
She added: "This evening, Snehasis came to our house and banged on our door. When the neighbours came, he left the place and threatened to take revenge on us. Then we decided to approach the police."
