Cuttack, July 18: Stewart School, under the management of Diocese Cuttack, has introduced “smart class” for its students. The new teaching system was inaugurated in the school on Mission Road on Saturday.

Stewart School, affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi, is the first to introduce smart class in the city.

“In collaboration with Educomp, we introduced the digital initiative designed to assist teachers in meeting day-to-day classroom challenges and enhancing student’s academic performance with simple, practical and meaningful use of technology,” principal Asha Margaret Das said.

“The students’ understanding is at a sensory perceptual level. Thus the students best understand things which they can hear, see and feel,” the principal added, indicating emphasis of smart class on technology intensive teaching with interactive whiteboards – explaining the lessons, diagrams and maps on touch-screens and saving them in computers along with it.

Inaugurating the Educomp Smartclass rooms bishop Samson Das said: “The teacher-led content delivery system makes learning an enjoyable experience for students. It is expected to improve academic performance of students as it enables multi-sensory learning in classrooms.” Initially, smart class will be introduced for classes IX and X .

Educomp Solutions assistant vice-president (east) Chandrajit Mitra said that the technology is meant to supplement learning. It is a digital initiative that has already been adopted by over 2,500 schools in India.

“We aim at providing a supplementary aid to teachers and not at replacing them. Another special feature of this technology is that the teachers can programme the videos as and when they want it to be screened during the week,” Mitra said.

Smart class is powered by a vast repository of digital instruction materials exactly mapped to meet with the specific objectives laid out by different learning standards set up by the state.

The content repository consists of thousands of highly animated, lesson specific, 3D and 2D multimedia modules. Educational videos from Eureka and Discovery Channel are also available for teachers to use in the classroom.

By using Educomp Smartclass technology, a teacher can teach a chosen lesson in class, frame-by-frame, with engaging and instructionally sound animated set of visuals. Consequently, it provides a richer learning environment.

Concepts are introduced in an exciting manner. Assessments come with instant result. Improves teacher effective and productivity.

Besides, it makes learning an enjoyable experience for students and enables academic excellence.

It enables instant formative assessment of learning outcomes in class, Educomp Solutions spokespersons said.
