Bhubaneswar, Sept. 1: BJP national president Amit Shah will arrive in Odisha on a three-day visit from September 6 to give fillip to his party's efforts to strengthen at the grassroots level.

Shah will meet party workers and chalk out plans for the next Assembly elections scheduled to be held in 2019. During his last visit to the state in July, Shah had said that the party would win 120 of the 147 seats in the Odisha Assembly.

BJP's Odisha-in-charge Arun Singh said: 'The party has chalked out its plan to achieve its Mission-120. During Shah's visit to the state, further details would be chalked out.'

Party functionaries and workers from all the 999 mandals and 36,000 booths in Odisha will take part in a meeting that will be held during Shah's visit.

This will be Shah's second visit to the state after the party's national executive meeting in April. In the first week of July, Shah had been to Odisha and visited BJD president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik's home-turf Ganjam to launch the party's 'Moo Booth, Sabutharu Majboot'(My booth is the strongest booth) programme.

Ahead of the visit, the BJD today sharpened its attack on the BJP and ridiculed its tall claims of capturing 120 seats. The BJD, which had supported the demonetisation exercise, today questioned its outcome following reports that nearly 99 per cent currency notes returned to the banking system following Narendra Modi's announcement on November 8 last year.

BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Pratap Deb said: 'The exercise was a complete failure. The nation's economy has skidded. The growth rate has taken a nose-dive.' He also questioned the claims of the BJP government about the unearthing of black money from the exercise.

Taking a dig at the BJP's claims of winning 120 seats, Deb said: 'It is really a big joke. They are behaving as if they have already won 120 seats. Shah's visit will have no impact on state politics.'

However, the BJP defended the demonetisation exerise.

Party spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said: 'It was a successful exercise. The tax base has increased. People cannot hide their money anymore. The BJD is scared of the BJP's growth in the state and that's the reason it has started complaining.'
