Cuttack, May 4: Ravenshaw University campus turned tense this morning following a scuffle between two groups of students.
Varsity sources said second-year BCom student Sanjiv Prusty was allegedly attacked by a group of three students from the information technology management (ITM) department. Prusty sustained minor injuries on his ear.
The incident took place around 9am when Prusty was returning from the examination hall after appearing for one of his semester papers.
The injured student wrote a complaint, which was sent to the Malgodown police station by university authorities. However, a formal case is yet to be registered.“We have received a complaint from the student and necessary action is being taken in this regard,” said a senior varsity official.
Students and authorities said today’s incident was a fallout of an ongoing disturbance between the ITM students and East Hostel boarders, which had earlier taken a violent form. On February 4, three students of ITM department were injured in the attack by a group of students from the hostel.
Following that incident, the authorities of Ravenshaw had slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on seven students engaged in the violence on the campus.
However, the issue had snowballed into a controversy after the ITM students had staged a protest demanding action against the erring students who had failed to deposit the fine amount by March 13.
