Bhubaneswar, July 15: The Union ministry of food processing industries, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), organised a roadshow on food processing here today to encourage Odisha-based industrialists to take part in the World Food India in Delhi.
The ministry is organising event from November 3 to 5 where it will showcase India's strength in food processing and the opportunities available.
It is organising roadshows across the country to encourage industrialists to join the industry. Chairman of the CII's Odisha State Council & Nalco chief Tapan Kumar Chand said: "The world food event will be in line with Make in India and aim to make India an ideal destination for investments in food processing."
Micro, small & medium enterprises (MSME) minister Prafulla Samal said: "Odisha will be one of the focus states in the World Food India event in New Delhi."
World Food India delegation leader and ministry secretary J.P. Meena said: "Lack of food processing and related infrastructure has resulted in a significant amount of food wastage in the country. Over the next three years, we are expecting the food processing industry to witness an investment of about Rs 50,000 to 60,000 crore."
He also urged the state to develop food processing industry in clusters. Additional chief secretary of the MSME department, L.N. Gupta, urged entrepreneurs to actively participate in the event in New Delhi.
In another development, chief minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off the Skills Caravan from ITI, Khudpur at Jatni on World Youth Skill Development Day.
The caravan will travel to the state's 30 districts till 30th July and create awareness of skill initiatives of the government.
Under this programme, the Skills Caravan will spread awareness on skill development. At the district level, collectors and their teams will organise several skill awareness sessions during the caravan's stay in their respective areas.
Odisha Skill Development Authority chairman Subroto Bagchi said: "We have a mission to bring transformative human development in the state through skilling the youth and making Skilled in Odisha a Global Brand."
