Risky ride

Students going to school in overloaded autorickshaws, often perched precariously on the back of these vehicles (in picture) is a common sight in Bhubaneswar as well as many other parts of the state. This continues despite the state government having banned vehicles with seating capacity of less than 13 from transporting children to school. Though the ban is supposed to have come into effect from December 1, it is being observed more in its violation. Autorickshaw and small van owners, who used to make a living by transporting schoolchildren, have been resisting the ban.
