Bhubaneswar, July 8: Sambalpur city will have an outer Ring Road to resolve its traffic problem.

The district administration has identified land for the project and sent a proposal to the state government to initiate the process of land acquisition.

A total of 579.761 acres, including 367.841 acres of private land and 178.449 acres of government land, will be acquired for the proposed outer Ring Road.

Around Rs 466 crore will be spent on land acquisition.

The proposed four-lane outer Ring Road will be 37.820km in length.

The public works department's deputy executive engineer Narayan Patel said: "The proposed outer Ring Road will originate from the National Highway-6 at Goshala and connect the Sambalpur-Rourkela State Highway (SH-10) at Ranikhinda in Sason area on the city outskirts. It will meet the NH-6, SH-10 and the Cuttack-Sambalpur National Highway (NH-55) at different places."

"We are preparing the detailed project report and its estimate. The National Highways Authority of India will execute the project," said Patel.

The heavy vehicles plying on the NH-6, NH-55 and the SH-10 will not need to enter Sambalpur city after the outer Ring Road is constructed. It will, therefore, be helpful in resolving the traffic congestion in the city.

"The project will also help in expansion of the city as new areas situated on its outskirts will be connected because of the Ring Road," said local resident Nirakar Pradhan.
